In the tropical paradise of Phuket Thailand, there are many pools: private pool villas, resorts tucked away in the palms, and pools overhanging cliffs with fantastic views of the ocean. But there is something magical about a pool right on the beach in a tropical paradise, and there are not enough of them in Phuket. Introducing The Surin Phuket. Lounged, taste-tested and #ladyofleisureapproved.
THE SURIN PHUKET
It was clear on arrival that The Surin has excellent service. I arrived very late at night on my birthday. Upon checking in, they noticed it on my passport and told me “Happy Birthday.” Details. Then they sent me to my room with a box dinner because all of the restaurants were closed. Details. THEN….the next day, a chocolate birthday cake arrives to my room! They are clearly all about the details. Enough about me, onto that beachfront pool.
There are many villas at The Surin Phuket. Some are tucked up in the hill (quite a hike), some directly on the beach, and everywhere in between. In the closet, you’ll find the following amenities (see image below): wide brim sunhat, Panama hat, 2 fans, and a large beach bag. These are useful details of which all hotels with pools should take note. Details make a big difference in creating the perfect poolside experience.
The Surin Phuket is a popular destination, but it doesn’t feel too busy because there are plenty of loungers around the pool and on the beach. The beach itself is shared with another luxury property, Amanpuri. Other than that, it is totally private. The service around the pool is great, once you let them know you’ll be needing something. They are pretty hands-off at first.
You can choose to dine in one of multiple restaurants on the property, but I found the poolside bar and restaurant (Beach Bar) was delightful. There are some very nice public vendors who serve the beach loungers with different food and beverage as well. If you’re getting something basic, it’s great, but the Beach Bar is serving up some excellent cocktails (aperol spritzes, YAY!) and delicious Thai food. No need to leave the pool or beach area for the entire trip!
Other details: The pool loungers are comfortable and clean. There are bean bags chairs on the beach that you can move around for a closer look at the sunset. There are vendors offering massages on your lounger – you don’t even have to get up!
The Surin Phuket is one of the best hotels in Phuket and one of the best beachfront poolside experiences I have had. If you’re looking to travel to Phuket, look no further. They have the magic formula.
